My class has a videoconference called North Carolina Natural Treasures. We split up into five groups. All of the groups had a natural treasure. My group had a red cardinal. It is our state bird because it has one of our state colors. The second group had a long leaf pine tree. That tree can survive a fire! The third group had a scotch bonnet; that kind of shell had a sea snail living in it in the ocean. The fourth group had a honey bee. The boy bee doesn’t sting. The fifth group had a box turtle. It can close it’s shell completely.

Today my class went to a videoconference about NC Natural Treasures. After we did some different stuff, we did groups. Table 5 had a cardinal. I learned has a brown color. The female is brown because she has to protect her eggs in the nest. The fourth group had a longleaf pine. We learned that their needles can be 8-18 inches long. I also learned that it can survive through a fire. Group three had a shell. I leaned that sometimes the snail is inside or outside the shell. Group two had a honey bee. I learned that the female bee could sting and the male can’t. The first group had a box turtle. I learned that they don’t go in the water that much. I also learned that they are in the forest a lot. I also learned that girl bees are the workers and the boy bees stay in the hive with the queen. They hang around with the queen which makes her have more babies. I also learned that the longleaf pine has a stem also. They grow in NC. The box turtle can’t close the back of his shell all the way but he can put his head and his feet in his shell. I also learned that you can find a lot of shells along the coast. If there is nothing in a turtle shell that means it is dead.

Today we had a videoconference with the museum about Natural Treasures. First we had five groups to tell us what it is and why it is important to NC. I learned something; it’s that female honey bees have stingers but the males do not. The bee group said that. The bird group had a cardinal. They said that the cardinal doesn’t fly south in the winter. It stays here in NC. The next group had a shell called a Scotch Bonnet. They said that some turtles stay on land. The pinecones and pine tree group said that the pine tree could not get burned like the other trees.

The bees help the farmer by pollinating the flowers and plants. After the bee group was the shell group. The shell group had a Scotch Bonnet. It has a sea snail in it. The fishermen find the shells a lot. The last group was the box turtle group. When the turtle is alive, the shell is on it. She showed us a real live turtle.

Today we had a videoconference. My class learned about North Carolina Natural Treasures. My group talked about honey bees. My group learned that 2000 can fit in a bee hive. Only the female can have the stinger to sting people that swat at them. That makes the female bee mad and then it flys around you and it tries to sting you. But bees do not want to harm you, just sometimes they get scared of people because they think sometimes people want to harm them. So they are more scared of you than you are of them. So bees love people and they don’t want to hurt you and they don’t want you to harm them.
